This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information when you use the Jigsaw Tails website.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use Jigsaw Tails, we may process the following information:

  • Pet photographs you upload
  • Your pet's name
  • Your email address and email-verification information
  • Saved-creation information, including secure return-link records
  • Creative details you provide about your pet — including personality traits, favourite places and activities, favourite objects or toys, habits and other details that help us personalise your artwork
  • Your creation session or order identifier
  • The artwork you choose
  • Your chosen puzzle size
  • Payment and order-status information received from Stripe
  • Shipping recipient name and delivery address
  • Whether you selected a gift card and the handwritten message you provide for it
  • Artwork-credit information
  • Order, production and fulfilment information

Payment is handled through Stripe Checkout. Jigsaw Tails does not handle full payment-card details directly. We receive the payment and order-status information needed to confirm and fulfil your order, and we store checkout contact and shipping information where it is needed for fulfilment and support.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Create your personalised Jigsaw Tails artwork
  • Allow you to resume your creation session if you return to the site
  • Generate watermarked previews so you can choose your favourite artwork before ordering
  • Prepare your chosen artwork for puzzle production
  • Fulfil and support your order
  • Verify your email address and remember your verified-customer state
  • Send saved-creation links and purchase-confirmation emails
  • Process payments and confirm whether an order has been paid
  • Protect the website from automated abuse using bot-protection checks
  • Understand how visitors use the site through anonymous funnel analytics
  • Respond to your enquiries or support requests
  • Manage replacements or resolve problems with your order
  • Support potential future reorders where applicable
  • Maintain appropriate order and business records
  • Maintain site security and prevent misuse

We do not currently send marketing emails or newsletters.

Email verification and saved creations

Where email verification is enabled, we use your email address to send a six-digit verification code. The code expires after 15 minutes and is used to confirm that the email address belongs to you. We do not store the code in plain text.

After you verify your email address, a protected browser token helps us remember your verified-customer state for up to 30 days. The token itself is not included in the customer-facing status response.

When your initial artwork choices are ready, we may send a saved-creation email containing a secure return link. The link is available for 7 days and lets you return to the saved creation. It is not a payment confirmation or a guarantee that an order has been placed.

How your artwork is created — OpenAI

We use OpenAI technology to help create your personalised Jigsaw Tail. This means the pet photographs and creative details you provide are securely transmitted to OpenAI's API for processing as part of the artwork-generation process.

We do not make specific claims about OpenAI's data-retention or training practices, as these are subject to OpenAI's own terms and policies. We encourage you to review OpenAI's Privacy Policy if you would like to understand how they handle data submitted via their API.

Storage and security

Your original, unwatermarked artwork is stored privately and is not made publicly available. Customer-facing previews are watermarked copies; the clean production files are kept separately and are not accessible via normal customer-facing pages. Private storage identifiers are not exposed to the browser.

Uploaded reference photographs, artwork files, previews and production PDFs are stored in private storage for the purposes described in this policy. Production PDFs are created from the selected artwork for manufacturing and fulfilment; they are not provided as a standalone customer download. Temporary processing files are removed after processing.

We use reasonable technical measures to restrict access to your information. As with any online service, we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take appropriate steps to protect the personal information we hold.

How long we keep your information

Abandoned creation sessions

If you begin a creation session but do not place an order, the creative data associated with your session (photographs, questionnaire information, generated artwork) is generally retained for up to 30 days after your last activity and is then scheduled for automatic deletion.

Reference photographs — fulfilled orders

Pet photographs uploaded as part of a fulfilled order are retained for up to 30 days after fulfilment for production and support purposes, and are then scheduled for deletion.

Questionnaire and profile information — fulfilled orders

The creative questionnaire information you provide (pet name, personality details, favourite places and activities, etc.) is retained for up to 30 days after fulfilment and is then removed or anonymised.

Unselected artwork and previews — fulfilled orders

Artwork options you saw but did not choose, along with their watermarked previews, are retained for up to 30 days after fulfilment and are then deleted.

Selected purchased artwork

The final artwork you selected and purchased may be retained privately for up to 24 months after fulfilment to support customer service and potentially make future reorders easier. This artwork is not supplied as a standalone digital download as part of the puzzle purchase.

Production files

Production files used to manufacture your puzzle may be retained for up to 12 months after fulfilment for production and replacement purposes, and are then deleted.

Anonymous analytics

Anonymous analytics sessions and events are retained for up to 90 days and are then scheduled for deletion. This retention period applies to the anonymous analytics data described below, not to order records.

Verification and saved-creation records

Verification codes expire after 15 minutes. Expired code records are removed during scheduled cleanup, normally after an additional period of about 24 hours. Verified customer tokens expire after 30 days. Saved-creation return links are available for 7 days, and expired link records are removed after a 24-hour grace period.

Order and accounting records

Minimal order and business records — such as your order identifier, order date, puzzle size chosen and transaction information — may need to be retained for longer where required for legal, accounting, tax, dispute or business-record purposes. The retention of these records does not involve retaining your photographs or questionnaire content.

Sharing your information

We share your information only where necessary to provide the Jigsaw Tails service. At present this includes:

  • OpenAI — your pet photographs and creative details are sent to OpenAI's API to generate your personalised artwork
  • Stripe — payment and checkout processing, including the payment and order-status information needed to confirm your order
  • Resend — delivery of verification, saved-creation and other transactional emails on our behalf
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — verification of bot-protection challenges used to protect the website and prevent automated abuse
  • Production and fulfilment suppliers — relevant order information, including the selected artwork, puzzle size, production artwork or PDF, shipping recipient and delivery address, and gift-card details where needed to make and deliver your personalised order
  • Our hosting, database and storage providers — who store your data on our behalf under appropriate data-processing arrangements

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Your rights

Depending on your circumstances and applicable law, you may have rights over your personal information, including:

  • Access — the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you
  • Correction — the right to ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion — the right to ask us to delete your personal information
  • Restriction — the right to ask us to restrict how we use your information
  • Objection — the right to object to certain uses of your information
  • Data portability — the right, in some circumstances, to receive your information in a portable format

Not every right applies in every situation. To exercise a right, or to ask a question about your personal information, please contact us at support@jigsawtails.co.uk. We may need to verify your identity or order details before we can fulfil a request.

If an erasure request is accepted, we delete or remove the creative data and stored files covered by the request, including reference photographs, artwork, production files and handwritten gift-card messages where applicable. Minimal order, payment, accounting and erasure-audit records may remain where needed for legal, accounting, security or business-record purposes.

Cookies and browser storage

Jigsaw Tails does not use advertising cookies. We use cookies and limited browser storage for verified-customer state, creation and checkout restoration, customer preferences and anonymous analytics.

The site may use:

  • A secure browser cookie to remember verified-customer state for up to 30 days
  • A first-party analytics session cookie and an opt-out preference cookie
  • Local storage to remember your current order or creation identifier and your pet's name so you can resume your progress
  • Session storage for temporary checkout-return, artwork-refinement and preference information

Our first-party analytics uses an anonymous session identifier, the page where you arrived, referrer information and UTM/source information, together with allowlisted funnel events. It is used to understand how the site is used, not for advertising. The analytics opt-out preference stops future anonymous analytics from that browser; it does not claim to remove data already received.

Anonymous analytics is kept separate from order lifecycle records. The anonymous analytics session identifier is held in memory by the page and is not stored in localStorage. We do not use browser storage for uploaded photographs or questionnaire answers.

Photo fingerprints

To help recognise when the same uploaded photograph is used again for restoration and abuse-protection purposes, we create a one-way fingerprint from the normalised image. The fingerprint is not the photograph, cannot be used to recreate it, is not returned to your browser and is not used in anonymous analytics.

Data protection questions or complaints

If you have a question or complaint about how we use your personal information, please contact us at support@jigsawtails.co.uk. We will acknowledge a data-protection complaint within 30 days and respond without undue delay.

If you are based in the United Kingdom and remain unhappy after contacting us, you may have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). More information is available at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as Jigsaw Tails evolves, including when the way we process payments, fulfil orders, send transactional emails or use analytics changes. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when changes are made. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
